Are your kids tired of the same ol’ peanut butter and jelly for lunch, day after day? Can you already hear them shouting, “No more tuna!” after the first week back at school?
As the back-to-school season is in full swing, the tedious task of packing those lunches may get old — for mom and the kiddos.
Here are some solutions to
spice up your kiddo’s lunch and bring some variety to the school days. Your kids will soon be left wondering what goodies mom packed today.
-
Add thousand island dressing and sauerkraut to create a Reuben.
-
Add pickles and mustard for a Cuban sandwich.
-
Make extra bacon over the weekend and pair with avocado to create a BLAT.
-
Freeze some grapes the night before and toss them into the lunch box before your kids head off to school. They’ll double up as an ice pack and a healthy snack!
-
Keep your juice boxes in the freezer and reach for them instead of the ice pack in the morning. By the time lunch comes around, the juice box will be defrosted and cold for drinking, and the food will be cool!
-
If you’re trying to ease up on juice, try filling a water bottle halfway with ice and the other half with juice and stick it in with lunch.
-
Invest in a simple Bento box. It’s a way to pack lunches that are fun, colorful and perfect for portion control.
-
Use cookie cutters to make shapes out of your sandwiches to add more visual appeal to your kids’ lunch. You can use big cookie cutters for full-shaped sandwiches, or smaller cookie cutters for bite-sized fun! If you don’t want to waste the scraps, you could also use the cookie cutters to impress a shape into the sandwich.
-
Try putting the sandwich on a stick! Lunch box kebabs are not only extremely easy to make, but they are customizable as well! Make a sandwich like you normally would and then cut it into nine square pieces. Skewer the sandwich pieces onto sticks (make sure there are no pointy ends) and alternate between grapes or cherry tomatoes. You can also skip the sandwich and alternate chicken and veggie pieces, turkey and cheese (it’s easy to tear up slices of the Land O’Frost Premium Oven Roasted Turkey Breast), or fruit and berry pieces. Want to make snack skewers instead?
-
Or try using pretzel sticks as the skewer to hold meat and cheese together. The possibilities are endless!
-
Make lunchtime a more interactive, hands-on experience with lunch dippers! Start with the main dip like bean and cheese, hummus, guacamole, or salsa. Then surround your dip with sides like pita bread, crackers, baguette pieces, veggies and fruit.
Lunchtime doesn’t have to be the same old boring brown bag! Dress up some easy lunch staples, add some PIZZAZZ to the presentation, or prepare the food in a different way. The options are endless and will keep your kids occupied at lunch. Make your kid the one everyone else is trying to trade lunches with.
