The two organizations team up to help empower individuals with disabilities.
MUNSTER, Ind. (May 15, 2018) –
Land O’Frost, Inc., one of the nation’s best-selling brands of pre-sliced deli meats and
Changing the Face of Beauty, a non-profit organization that advocates for equal representation of individuals with disabilities in advertising and media, recently teamed up to host a Headshot Clinic for children with special needs. The event is part of a larger partnership between the two companies that focuses on empowering people living with disabilities by advocating for inclusive imagery, changing perceptions and igniting futures in the media and advertising industries.
During the event, which took place at Land O’Frost’s headquarters facility in Munster. Ind. On Monday, May 14, more than 30 children with special needs had the opportunity to have professional photos taken. The Headshot Clinic was designed to help participants build their portfolio and encourage global casting agencies to include talent with disabilities in mainstream advertising and media.
“As a family-owned and operated company, we pride ourselves on being a genuine and authentic brand that works hard every day to help meet the needs of all families, including those who have family members or friends with a disability,” said David Van Eekeren, President and CEO of Land O’Frost. “We understand the power of our advertising and want to use that platform to influence others for good, which is why we are proud to partner with Changing the Face of Beauty and support them as they work to create broader understanding and acceptance of individuals with special needs.”
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, nearly one in five people in the U.S. identify as having a disability, yet they are underrepresented in the marketing and innovation strategies of corporate America. Helping change this dynamic is an important priority for Land O’Frost. Last year, the company featured a child with special needs in its television ad and received an overwhelmingly positive response from consumers, many of whom had a personal connection to the cause.
As a Diamond Sponsor of Changing the Face of Beauty, Land O’Frost is continuing its commitment to help educate others about why including people with disabilities in both the workforce and in advertising is an important strategy for all businesses.
Changing the Face of Beauty started as an online campaign in 2015, when Katie Driscoll, Founder and President of the nonprofit was shopping for her daughter with special needs and noticed that there weren't many representations in the media of people who looked like her daughter. As an advocating group full of volunteers, photographers and corporate partners committed to the cause, Changing the Face of Beauty hopes to assist by providing talent and answering questions about why it is important for the disability community to be included in everyday advertising initiatives.
“I believe that media and advertising can truly change the perceptions of how the world sees people with special needs, and hosting the Headshot Clinic with Land O’Frost is just one of many ways that we’re providing opportunities to children with special needs,” said Katie Driscoll, Founder and President, Changing the Face of Beauty. “We’re excited about our partnership with Land O’Frost, as the relationship is helping us push for representation in the world of media and encourage aspiring models with disabilities to follow their dreams.”
